80 Great Eastern Street
Typical of the South Shoreditch vernacular, the former warehouse-showrooms at 76-80 Great Eastern Street are representative of the rich architectural legacy of an Edwardian and Victorian manufacturing district.
A make-shift office building for the past three decades, the former showroom-warehouses were nearing the end of their useful life. Our scheme to striped away the 20th century insertions and restored the historic fabric of brick, ironwork and timber. The historic open-plan arrangement to the upper floors is then re-established for office use whilst retail at street level pays homage to the former trade counters of the original use. At roof level a new addition introduces nine duplex penthouse apartments.
Perceived as a cluster of roof-level town houses arranged around a slender two storey passageway, the dark silhouette sits in stark contrast to the historic brickwork below.
