NOBU, Shoreditch

Kyson have been commissioned to design the rooftop extension of Nobu Hotel in Shoreditch, adding 1 storey of hotel rooms, suites, dining areas and open terraces that replace the existing plant roof.

The proposed massing integrates the plant screen as part of façade design, whilst responding to the base building by extending its axis.

The new material palette utilises bronze anodised Aluminium cladding with pronounced fin details, clear and reflective glazing which are set back and bamboo screen, with the intention of creating a subtle interplay between light and shadow in relation to façade datum.  A quiet yet dramatic architectural intervention, which negotiates with both the site conditions that involve extensive rearrangement of building services equipment and planning policies.
